At the fifth conference of the twelfth National People’s Congress held on 5 March 2017, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang put forward a blueprint for the development of a city cluster in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The Greater Bay Area will not only drive economic development in southern China but also provide strong support for an upgraded economy in China. Certainly, it will play a vital role in successfully implementing the Belt and Road Initiative.

The seminar on “Greater Bay Area of China and the Belt and Road Initiative” is organized by Maritime Silk Road Society and supported by The Australian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and Macau, The Harvar Club of Hong Kong and The Stanford GSB Alumni Association (Hong Kong Chapter). The speaker, Professor Bruce McKern, is a researcher, writer and advisor on issues of Multinational Corporation (MNC) strategy and innovation in China. He was previously a professor at Stanford University; Co-Director of the Centre on China Innovation, China Europe International Business School;   and more recently a visiting research fellow at Oxford and INSEAD. His highly praised book on innovation (Yip & McKern, China’s Next Strategic Advantage: from Imitation to Innovation, MIT Press 2016) is an authoritative guide to China’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and the innovation capabilities of Chinese companies. He will share with participants his views on the opportunities and challenges arising from The Greater Bay Area initiative and how Hong Kong business can benefit.
